Welcome

In the spirit of the upcoming holiday we'll keep this program report short.

The Law Enforcement Torch run is back!  Read below for details.  Let's support the Law Enforcement Officials who support Special Olympics through activities and fundraisers.

We need ATHLETES and supporters at EVERY spot!

Please contact me if you or know someone that is interested in participating/supporting.

Free Tickets!

I have 5 tickets to Family Day at the Arcade International Raceway for June 12th.  It is a benefit for United Way.  If you would like the tickets please let me know... first come first serve!

Med Fest!

We understand that getting an athlete's medical form is sometimes difficult, we are proposing to hold a 'Med Fest" in which we would have doctors available on one day and any athlete can come out to get their physical and medical form signed.  This is a great opportunity to get as many athlete's forms updated as possible.  If you think your team has athletes that would attend please let me know.

Fundraiser!

The Western Region has an official fundraiser.  We have teamed up with Niagara Chocolates and have the opportunity to sell candy bars.  Every team can participate!

How it works:  Similar to your local library, you will "sign out" the chocolate bars and then return the money when sold.  You can customize your order from flavors to how many bars you take at a time.  This way, noone is stuck with a basement full of melty chocolate bars.

Please contact the Western Office for more details or if you have any questions.

A big thank you to the Chautauqua Lakers for the idea and have also been very successful with this fundraiser in the past.

Sport Trainings

Volleyball: Date/Time TBD

Equestrian:  Date/Time TBD,

SASi High Hurdles, Elma, NY

Reminder of the Week

Please notify the Western Region Office if you receive a donation of any kind ($, food, t-shirts, equipment...).  Special Olympics keeps records of this information to most importantly thank our generous donors and also to have on record for budgeting purposes.

Law & Orders

It's not too late to sign up to take an athlete!

                     ab's                   applebees logo

When: Wednesday, April 29, 2009 from 5:00-8:30 PM

Special Olympics and the Law Enforcement Torch run has an incredible opportunity with Applebee's.  On Wednesday, April 29,2009 we have the opportunity to do "Law & Orders" again in your area!  From 5-8:30pm law enforcement officers will be greeting the public, helping the waitresses get drinks, and bus tables while educating the customers about our initiatives.  On each table there will be an envelope where the customers can leave a donation for Special Olympics New York.  Historically in events like this we can raise anywhere between $500 - $1000 at one restaurant and with over 60 locations across the state we should have an amazing success!

Participating locations in our area include:  Clarence, Blasdell, Niagara Falls, Amherst, Lockport, Jamestown, Delaware Ave., West Seneca, Cheektowaga, Lancaster, Olean and Batavia.

New Athletes

The word is out!  The office is receiving many requests for new athletes to join Special Olympics!  These athletes cannot experience the joy of Special Olympics without you.  I periodically send out emails when I receive athlete referrals.  Please respond whether or not your club is accepting new athletes.
