Special Olympics New York | Western Region Program Report October 24, 2008 | | | | | Greetings from the Western Region! | Hello again from Special Olympics Western New York. The information provided below includes updates, new information and some "reminder" news of events and fundraisers. If you have any announcements or fun stories (or even pictures from an event) let us know and we can include them in the next program report. Do you know of someone not receiving this email? You can either forward it to them where they can join the mailing list or contact me and I will add their email address to the list. | | | | | We are proud to announce a new skiing training club is being formed! We have been working with Kissing Bridge and they are very excited to work with us and provide a great experience for our athletes! We currently have one coach, but need 2-3 more. -Six (6) one hour lessons on Mondays and Thursdays arriving at 5 PM with the lesson starting between 5:30 and 6:00. -2 Kissing Bridge instructors will be assigned to the group if needed -More experienced skiers may leave the group if accompanied by a coach -The program will begin on January 5, 2009 -Lift tickets will be provided and are good from 5 PM until close (10 PM) -There are 12 spots for athletes -Equipment will be provided if needed -At mentioned above, lessons are being provided so an athlete does not necessarily have to have experience. This is a great opportunity to get more athletes involved and hopefully have some Western athletes attend future competitions. Please contact Shelby Baker if you are interested in coaching/volunteering or if you know of some athletes that might be interested in participating. __________________________ | Training Club Visits | Now that we have an established office in the Western Region we want to get to know you! We will be visiting training clubs seasonally to meet all of the great coaches and athletes. This is a great opportunity to hand in paperwork (rosters, meds/consents) or ask any questions regarding Special Olympics. We don't want to be "the man behind the curtain". We are rolling up our sleeves and getting dirty right with you. If you have a team currently training feel free to contact Shelby Baker to set up a time we can come out to visit. ________________________________ | Submitting Rosters | Please take note of the new Roster submission procedure: At the beginning of each season, each training club is required to fill out a team roster including coach and athlete information. This allows us to keep more organized and know what training clubs and what coaches/athletes are participating each season. I understand that there are many training clubs that participate in more than one season and use the same athletes. If this is the case, please let the Program Director know at the beginning of the season and the previous roster will be used. This can only be used if the training club is using the same athletes and coaches as a previous season. The roster form will be emailed out at the beginning of each season. If you are currently training please contact Shelby Baker for a roster form. Thank you for your cooperation. | Future Events | Western South Snowshoeing Tuesday January 13, 2009 Western South X Country Skiing Saturday, January 17, 2009 Western Central Senior Bowling Sunday, January 18, 2009 Upstate Winter Skating Classic Sunday January 18, 2009 Western South Floor Hockey Saturday, January 24, 2009 Western South Iceskating Tentatively Tuesday, January 27, 2009 Western North Floor Hockey January, 2009 (Date not determined) More information including registrations and deadlines will become available closer to the event. | Conference Information | Winter Sports Conference 2008 Online Registration for our conference will be available here and on the web shortly.
