Coming Up: General Session open to ALL Next Wednesday the 26th Adams Mark Hotel - 6:00 PM Please encourage all volunteers to attend if they are not currently certified as a Type A volunteer Not able to make the General Session? Are there volunteers that need a Sport Training? If you or a group needs to attend a general session or a specific sport training outside of the three annual conferences, please contact me and we will try to make arrangements. | | | | Western Region Program Committee The Program Committee would like to make an open invitation to attend our next scheduled meeting: Date: Tuesday September 22nd at 4:30 PM Location: Western Region Office · Committee attendees have the ability and opportunity to provide support to the region in a variety of functions.
· The program committee is not a closed door committee. Committee membership is open to people who want to work to advance regional program and program goals. Membership is not necessarily annual and may be determined or driven by need and the sports season. Polar Plunge Meeting The 3rd annual polar plunge is scheduled for Sunday December 6th, 2009 in Hamburg We are holding a Plunge Meeting next Thursday the 27th for interested individuals that would like to get involved and/or come to provide ideas to make this the best plunge ever! Please contact me for more information. | | Save the Date | | | Mark your calendars now! The Seasonal Winter Conference is currently scheduled for Saturday, December 5th. Location/specifics TBD. A general session will be provided along with a re-certification piece for coaches. This is a great opportunity to not only renew your certification but network and meet other coaches and volunteers. | | FUNDRAISERS | | | | Sponsor an athlete The New York State Rental Dealers Association has teamed up with Special Olympics New York again to support the sponsor an athlete initiative. Rental centers such as Rent a Center and Aarons will be participating. Customers will have the chance to purchase a torch icon to support Special Olympics Athletes. A list of the participating centers in the Western Region can be found at the online file folder. We are trying to make visits to the centers to meet with the employees to thank them for their support. If you are interested in making a visit to a store with an athlete (or know of an athlete that would be available to travel with a staff person for a few hours) please contact me to make arrangements. We have participating stores acroos the Western Region in: Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Jamestown, Dunkirk, Olean, Tonawanda, Cheektowaga and Salamanca. Applebees It's back! The Applebees Law & Orders will take place on Thursday, October 29th. The Applebees staff is always excited to work with the Law Enforcement Officials and put them to work to wait tables, greet customers, etc. Our goal is to have at least one athlete at every participating Applebees location. The Law Enforcement Officials at each location look forward to meeting the athletes. If you are interested in attending a certain Applebees with an athlete or know of an athlete to you feel would be a good host/hostess to greet customers, please contact me.
