BEST IN THE WEST

Check here for tips, updates and reminders so that every coach, volunteer and fan can be the ***Best in the West***

We are always striving to provide the best possible experience for the athletes.  One way of doing this is offering seasonal feedback meetings held at the end of each season.

Coaches and volunteers should attend the meetings that the team trains in, regardless if the team attended a competition or not.

It is the feedback that is provided by you that helps improve Special Olympics New York and ultimately the experience and opportunity of every athlete.

Please encourage ALL coaches and volunteers of each team to attend

Call for Clinicians

The Western Region is looking for volunteers that are passionate about Special Olympics and want to be a part of educating new volunteers.  A clinician is comfortable in a teaching/presenting environment.

Types of clinicians:

*General Session clinician - The general session is what gives new volunteers information on our history, mission, goals and basics of involvement.  The clinician would present general session material to groups as needed throughout the region either at seasonal conferences or at individual training clubs.

*Sport clinician - provide sport specific training(s) either at seasonal conferences or as needed throughout the year.  This person can be certified to teach a specific sport or multiple sports.

Training and education will be provided.

Please contact me if you are interested in either of these volunteer positions.

Program Committee Members Wanted

What is the program committee?

The program committee is a group of volunteers who work together to fulfill the mission of Special Olympics.

In English Please?

Members bring their strengths and passions to determine any needs within the region, establish an action plan and assist in carrying it out.  All plans and actions are created with the goal of creating the best possible experience for the athletes.  All goals and action items are consistent with the mission and the advancement of the Regional Program.  Members will have the ability and opportunity to provide the support to the region in a variety of functions.

Some examples include: assisting with establishing the yearly calendar, creating new means of communication to reach out to athletes and families, providing ideas for volunteer recognition and identifying a training need and creating a curriculum to present at a seasonal conference to coaches and volunteers.

Membership is at will and does not require a long term commitment.

Meetings in 2010 will be held on the 3rd Monday of each month.  If this day falls on a holiday the meeting will be pushed back one week.

Meeting dates into the new year are as follows:

Jan 25, Feb 22, March 15, April 19, May 17, June 21

Location: Unless otherwise posted, meetings will take place at the Audubon Library in Amherst at 5:30 PM

(350 John James Audubon Parkway, Amherst, NY 14228)

Anyone with the passion and commitment to Special Olympics is eligible!

Please contact me if you are interested in joining or would like more information.
